My opinion, and I am certainly not an expert, is that this team lacks the chemistry and focus due to the absence in understanding roles by each player in meeting the teams goals on the court. This scenario has played out as Coach Williams has been forced to make constant unanticipated changes as he is “waiting on development of the younger players,” while searching for the “breakthrough leadership of the experienced players.” Yes, injury played some role as Zeller and Davis are actually the teams 2 in-betweeners (not freshman, but not experienced enough either), but not the primary role given this roster. Neither of these two critical team development aspects has played out very well and each has performed at different times, but not “together.” Thus, the lack of team performance.

The history of college basketabll is full of teams comprised of great players that are not necessarily great teams. Teams know their roles and have respect for each others roles and will step up to help one another. Sometimes great players may not be able to pass the basketball.
